Tivoli - Villa d'Este

April 4/08 - Second stop at Tivoli was the Villa d'Este, aaahhh, we loved the garden. Entrance Euro 6.50. The Villa is on the side of a hill, lots of paintings and mosaics but empty. Visitors come here not for the villa but for the gardens. The fountains were very, very impressive, the sound of water can be heard all over the place. We were told that the fountains worked on gravity, i.e. powered by water flowing from the mountains. So no electricity needed. Is that true?? Anyway, we didn't care about the technology, we only cared about our video and digital cameras - check out our video. Wow - the rows of hundred fountains, the Venus basin and many other themed fountains and statues. Yes, we all agreed that this deserved to be called one of the finest gardens in the world. Time passed quickly, it was soon noon - time to leave and head for Rome.
